Family and Friends Support
Knowing how to support someone who is trans or gender diverse is often one of the hardest things anyone will ever need to do. Quite often, not always, you're not expecting the news that your loved one is trans and it comes as a huge shock. And this doesn't change whether it's your young child or your adult child, brother, sister, best friend or partner.
But in that moment, whilst trying to process everything, you are also wanting to be as supportive as you possibly can but don't know what to do. This is where Mentoring with Han can help.
As a trans person, Hannah has seen how difficult this balance can be and has often been sought out by parents and friends of gender diverse people to know exactly how they can help. The answer is never as black and white as we would like, but it's also not as complex as we might think either.
Ask questions, let them teach you, show love. These are the three key things most trans or gender diverse people would say they need.
Whilst Supporting someone through this journey can be a really beautiful thing that can strengthen bonds for life, it can also be exhausting, frustrating and scary. Burn out is real. This is why self care is the most important thing for allies in this journey. It's a difficult balance.
This is where Mentoring with Han can help. We can simply be an ear to listen, we can provide the right resources, answer any questions you may have and most importantly work out a plan that puts you first whilst still supporting your loved one the way you want to.
